It's ability to bring you "back down to earth" and find yourself is just amazing. There is so much to do in the Ponca area of the Buffalo National River and it is all so close to Rimrock Cove. If you love to walk there are numerous hiking trails to find scenic beauty. From majestic waterfalls to the tiniest of wildflowers, it is there if you dare to look. Canoeing and kayaking the Buffalo River is a must, but is best planned for in the spring and early summer months. This is by far the best way to see this amazing river. Contact the Buffalo Outdoor Center for boat rentals and shuttles. They also offer the Buffalo River Canopy Tour, another super fun activity that is family friendly.
Elk watching in the Ponca and Boxley area has become a popular activity for guests to the area and a favorite fall destination for wildlife photographers.
Bird watchers can delight in the variety of birds there are to see in the area. Bald Eagles can be seen all year, but are more numerous during late fall and winter. Hawks of all varieties are everywhere as well as water birds and song birds. Explore the Buffalo River area with an eye open for these graceful and beautiful creatures.
